Q. How do we get a Marriage License?

A: A formal marriage license can be obtained from any county in Texas and the marriage can be performed anywhere in the state.

Additional requirements and information:

  • There is a 72-hour waiting period after the license is issued before the marriage ceremony can take place. The 72-hour waiting period can be waived by meeting one of three criteria.
    • The waiting period does not apply if an applicant is a member of the armed forces. Military ID must be shown to the person who performs the marriage ceremony.
    • The waiting period does not apply if the applicant obtains a 72-hour waiver signed by a District Judge. Waiver must be shown and kept by the person performing the ceremony.
    • Applicants possess a valid Twogether in Texas Certificate. Certificate must be shown to the person who performs the ceremony.
  • The marriage must take place within 90 days from the date of issuance--no exceptions.
  • If divorced in Texas, there is a 30-day waiting period after the divorce is final before remarriage--unless waived. If the 30-day waiting period is waived, a certified copy must be presented at the time the license is purchased.
  • The fee is $75.00 cash, Visa, Mastercard, American Express or Discover. (Credit card use adds an additional 3% fee.)
  • The fee is $15.00 for couples who attend the State of Texas approved Marriage Education Class and present a valid Twogether in Texas Certificate. For more information visit the website.

Q. Am I required to have pre-marital counseling?

A: No, premarital counseling is not required.

Q. Can we write our own vows?

A: Yes it is your wedding, and should be exactly what you want… Of course, if you need guidance with writing your vows, I will be glad to help with suggestions.

Q. What things should we consider when thinking about our ceremony?

A: What have you liked or disliked in weddings you have attended? My services vary from non-denominational which will include traditional religious references to no religious reference at all! Romantic readings and favorite songs are always a personal touch to add to the ceremony. Just remember, It's your special day and the ceremony should consist of meaningful segments from you.

Q. Will you travel?

A: Of course - I love to travel!! If I am requested to officiate outside the Fort Worth Metro area there will be an additional fee to compensate for time and fuel. (Call for more information) In the event I am asked to officiate out of town, additional costs (airfare, accommodations and meals) are the responsibility of the Bride and Groom and must be paid in advance.

Q. What is included in your fee?

A: My fee includes one face to face meeting with the couple if requested, or text /email consultation, any conversations up to the wedding day either by phone, text or email. Creation of the ceremony, with the couple having final approval over ceremony script. If your package includes a rehearsal, I will if you request lead the rehearsal. I will sign your marriage license after the ceremony and have it filed with the county clerk's office. The recorded license will be mailed to you by the county clerk after they have completed recording it.

A: While I don't require a rehearsal, I will do everything my schedule allows to be at a rehearsal if requested. At times I may have a ceremony scheduled on the same date as a rehearsal (especially on Friday evenings) so please have everyone who will participate in the rehearsal there on time. A rehearsal usually takes about 30 minutes.

Q. Will you attend the reception?

A: As a general rule, I do not stay for the reception, unless specifically requested. However, keep in mind that time may not allow me to participate.

Q. Do you accept credit cards?

A: Of course! But only through Venmo or PayPal - You are not required to have a PayPal account to pay by credit card.
